Rhonda’s weight loss journey began nine years ago, when she was met with the unfortunate news that she was pre-diabetic with high blood pressure. She weighted 235 pounds, and her doctor told her that she needed to lose 35 pounds if she wanted to reverse her diagnosis. After joining the local YMCA, she walked around and cautiously checked things out while wondering where exactly she should start. Despite her confusion, she worked with determination, trying all the group exercise classes she could get her hands on. Finally, she discovered group cycling.
In the beginning, she was flooded with negative thoughts, thinking that people would judge her if they saw her struggle. She wanted to quit but decided to push forth instead and deal with her fear. She began talking to other students in the class and getting to know her instructor better. By being friendly with the people who shared her environment, she got to hear other stories and learn about other people’s struggles. Rhonda began to understand the multitude of conditions and situations that brought a variety of people to one location: spin classes. In growing with the community, she overcame her fear of being judged or looked down upon. Rhonda realized that exercise shouldn’t be about the end goal, but rather the process, and how to enjoy yourself along the way!
Rhonda lost 70 pounds in a year! She reversed her diagnosis and lowered her blood pressure. After enjoying her experience with the YMCA spin classes, Rhonda set out to becomea nationally certified spin instructor and personal trainer! She aims to inspire people while helping them achieve their health goals. She often says, “the turtle won the race” when she wants to remind her students to stay consistent and embrace their own comfort levels.

Tony Ethridge is the dedicated and creative instructor behind FitCamp, one of the many opportunities at LifeCycles Studios where he works to walk you through every facet of functional body strength. He focuses on helping you improve mobility, agility, balance, endurance, stamina, and flexibility. Tony is a big believer in the process that helps you maintain a usable body—one that answers when you call!
